On Monday, October 13, we’ll be joined by a 911 dispatcher – the person on the other end of the line when emergencies begin. They’re the first to hear the panic, the confusion, and the fear. And they’re the ones who decide what happens next.
This talk will explore what dispatchers actually do: how they assess a crisis, what questions they ask, how they route calls, and what pressures they face when seconds count.
For families and peers, it’s a chance to understand the first link in the chain – before police, before EMTs, before anyone else arrives. You’ll be able to ask questions, share perspectives, and hear how dispatchers handle the human side of emergencies.
We hope you’ll join us. These conversations are part of our Open Meeting Speaker Series. Support groups continue as usual, and you can find details on our calendar.
